In June, Dept 26 Bude Mountain Bike Riders
Cycling Club set themselves the challenge to ride over 120 miles Coast to Coast from
Minehead in North Devon to Plymouth in the South, this was planned to be off road (as
much as possible) crossing both Exmoor and Dartmoor. They followed Sustrans cycle routes, Bridleways and dedicated cycle trails for the entire
route.
The big day was Saturday 11th June 2016 when after 80 miles and 13 hours riding they stayed overnight before starting out on the Dartmoor leg the following morning and after almost 8 hours they finished in Plymouth on 12th June 2016.
At the Start on Minehead Seafront
10 local riders from Bude took on this challenge for two causes that are close to the club. Although keen mountain bikers this was the biggest ride any of them had attempted.
During the challenge they were driven on by the support that was
being shown through social media and their JustGiving page and at the end of
the ride almost £1200 had been donated. The final count is yet to be done but
the club are very grateful to everyone who supported.
The causes they supported on this ride are
Cancer Research UK (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org) and Talan's Journey (https://www.facebook.com/talansjourney/).
